Charles Hoskinson Orders Independent Audit of IOG Amid $600M ADA Misuse Allegations

Cardano is facing one of its biggest crises to date. Founder Charles Hoskinson has ordered an independent audit of Input Output Global (IOG) after allegations surfaced that $600 million worth of ADA tokens were misused. These allegations stem from the unclaimed 318 million ADA tokens left over from the 2017 ICO, which became inaccessible after the network's Shelley upgrade in 2020.
IOG’s decision to move these tokens to support the technical transition now faces criticism, with members of the Cardano community accusing the firm of financial misconduct. In response, Hoskinson denied the claims and announced a full-scale audit by globally recognized firms:
- BDO International for the financial review
- McDermott Will & Emery for legal evaluation
- A blockchain analytics group for public transparency reporting
Hoskinson also expressed emotional strain over what he called personal attacks and hinted at stepping back from direct social media management.
The audit is seen as critical not only for Cardano’s image but also for setting a precedent on how unclaimed ICO funds should be handled within decentralized ecosystems.
