Tether, the issuer behind the world’s largest stablecoin USDT, has officially integrated the RGB protocol, bringing USDT directly onto the Bitcoin blockchain. This move marks a significant leap in Bitcoin-native asset capabilities.
With the release of RGB v0.11.1 on mainnet, the protocol now allows digital asset issuance in a private, scalable, and user-controlled manner. Through this integration, USDT can be transferred with greater privacy, without intermediaries, and even offline—benefiting millions globally.
Users will now be able to:
-
Manage Bitcoin and USDT in one wallet
-
Send private transactions
-
Retain full control over their assets
-
Execute transfers even without internet access
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino emphasized:
“Bitcoin deserves a stablecoin that is native, lightweight, private, and scalable. RGB gives USDT that potential and aligns perfectly with our mission to support a freer financial world.”
This development represents a turning point for Bitcoin's role in DeFi and stablecoin adoption, signaling a step toward greater financial sovereignty and privacy for users.
