Charles Hoskinson Slams $600M ADA Allegations, Audit Underway

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has responded strongly to allegations that $600 million worth of ADA was misused during the 2021 Allegra hard fork. The accusations have sparked widespread debate in the Cardano community, prompting Hoskinson to denounce them as a coordinated misinformation campaign.

He stated that the ADA in question was legitimately redeemed over a seven-year span and that the claims stem from a technical misunderstanding. To address the situation, an independent audit has been initiated by BDO International and McDermott Will & Emery, two globally recognized firms.

The controversy escalated further when DeFi platform Optim Finance was accused of supporting the spread of false narratives. Hoskinson criticized Optim for delegating user funds to individuals involved in the allegations. In response, Optim defended its four-year track record within the Cardano ecosystem and denied wrongdoing.

Following the controversy, Optim’s native token (O) dropped 23.7%, falling to $0.22. Hoskinson has since voiced support for rival platform Indigo, widening the divide in the Cardano ecosystem.

As the audit proceeds, this moment is shaping up to be a pivotal test of leadership and trust for Cardano. The outcome could either reinforce confidence or deepen the concerns within the community.
