On May 3, 2025, TRON founder Justin Sun announced a major upgrade to the TRON ecosystem. The news pushed TRX up by 7.2%, from $0.122 to $0.130, within the first hour. Trading volumes jumped 43%, with 1.2 billion TRX traded across top exchanges like Binance, OKX, and KuCoin.
On-chain data via TronScan confirmed a 15% rise in activity, reaching 5.8 million transactions.
Yet the celebration was short-lived. The TRON DAO Twitter account was hacked, and scammers used it to lure users into a trap to steal funds.
Sun responded immediately, urging OKX to freeze assets tied to the scam. He also contacted law enforcement and publicly appealed to the scammers, promising to return any recovered funds to the community.
TRON’s dual battle—advancing its ecosystem while defending its security—continues. The upgrade was well-received, but the breach underscored the ever-present threats in the crypto space.
